Membership at Portico Church
The Gospel that reconciles us to God also reconciles us to one another. Membership recognizes that our commitment to follow Jesus is also a commitment to a local church family.
At Portico we practice meaningful membership because we believe that it fosters Christian discipleship and best reflects the relationship we share in the Body of Christ. We are members of Christ’s body, and recognizing the value and worth of every member establishes the importance of loving, serving, and encouraging each other. This kind of relationships occurs within the context of a mutual commitment of following Jesus together, relying on the Spirit to equip and empower the people of God to grow into the fullness of Christ.
Practically, this will mean that while our membership is a diverse group from many cultures, backgrounds, and stages of life, we will share a comprehensive unity in our Lord and Savior that creates a visible witness of God’s love to this world in the body of Christ.
Path to Membership
We recognize that the process of deciding to become a member of a local church is serious. Our path to membership at Portico has three components (can be completed in any order): 1) Watch the Foundations Video Sessions below 2) Attend a Foundations Dinner 3) Meet with a Pastor.
Foundations video Sessions
Foundations is an introduction to the theology and community of Portico Church. The video sessions provide you with the overarching theology of Portico Church and will hopefully help you to understand the Bible, the Triune God, the Gospel, the Church, and the Christian life. Be sure to download the study guide and follow along!
Foundations dINNER
The Foundations Dinner is a time for you to get to know the story of Portico Church and some of the leaders of the church. This is an introduction to the community and the ways that each person contributes to how God’s love is experienced within our church. This is also a great time to meet other people exploring membership.
mEET WITH A pASTOR
Meeting with one of the Pastors give you the chance to get to know the church better, gain clarity on any belief or practices that are unclear, and to allow the Pastoral team to get to know you. The Pastoral team loves to get to know you and hear more about your understanding of the gospel and experience of coming to know and follow the Lord. It is also a time for us to be able to walk through our statement of belief and practice with you and answer any questions you may have about the church or what it means to follow God.
Once this entire process is complete, your membership will be confirmed by the Elders of Portico, and you will be introduced and welcomed into the church family at Portico!
Foundations Videos
Please watch the videos below and follow along in the study guide (below). As you are watching, please make note of any questions or areas where you would like to discuss in more detail. You can bring any questions you have to the meeting you have with a Pastor.
